The Truth about religion

The history of religion - Let's take a deep dive to find out the truth

Last year I was having a discussion with one of my friends about religion and he brought up a point, saying we can never be sure as the source of the religion is pre-historic and I was stumped. I thought to myself there has to be a way, nothing is impossible.
Right from my childhood days I had learnt if you are lost and looking for answers, the jungles of the Himalayas is where you find answers. So I took the first flight. Started wandering around the jungles for about 10 months when I came across a cave and I could hear some people laughing and chatting. I went in to peek and what do I find, Ram, Jesus, Mohamed, Guru Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh and many other Sanyasi kind of people who I didn't know were having a feast. They saw me and asked my name and asked me to join them.
I was surprised to death, finally I had found the fountain of knowledge I  was looking for. I asked them if I could stay with them and they all said I could stay as long as I want. I asked them if I could clear my doubts about their roles and their life, they said I could ask them any questions I want. For me that was like winning the biggest jackpot.

The first question I asked of course was, is there a god, and they laughed at me. I got my answer. My next question was, if you guys know there is no God then how come people are swearing by you guys.
Jesus took the initiative, he said let me tell you the history of religion.

Jesus: “There was this village who had a chief by the name of Kabilama, he was a very wise chief, he would make sure the hunt of the day was equally divided among the villagers, old and sick included. He used to guide the village through their rough times and everyone used to love him. One day the chief died and his son took over. People were so obsessed with the chief they refused to accept the son as the chief. The son came up with an idea, he said his father is up in the clouds and he is watching everyone over there, he is going to guide them through him. He made a statue of his dad outside his hut. Kabilama was the first god
Every small village had an extraordinary leader at some point or the other and it was difficult for the successors to be as good and they started using the same trick. In today's world also you guys do the same thing, you put pictures of past politicians to remind the ordinary people of their greatness and somehow the successors associate themselves with the past heroes through these pictures and statues. Once this idea worked they modified the scene a little more. The successors in order to control the masses, said even if no one is watching you, Kabilama is still watching you. If you steal or kill or do anything wrong, you are being watched. This worked even better, people were under control by the invisible force. The third round of modifications came when they said if you need any favors from Kabilama please let me know, and during our spiritual discussions at night I will mention your name to Him. Many people came asking for favors, and now the son could charge a fee”

Me interrupting: But couldn’t the people see that the favors being asked were not being fulfilled?

Jesus: Then he would blame it on the devil, the double force, or a black cat or a bad omen. People had bought the first 2 parts of the story, now they were being controlled, they would believe anything When the favors were not being fulfilled he would blame anything, AND when they were somehow met, the credit would go to Kabilama. People took the story a bit further, they thought, if he is watching me and he can see what I am doing, then maybe I can ask him for favors myself. When confronted with this logic, Kabilama’s son said that will not work, you have to go through ME for favors, and so religion was born.

Me: But how come you are sure these stories are not true, the prophets that have come in the thousands of years have they been lying to us all this time?

Jesus: Let’s suppose there is a God. He is the all powerful God that you guys know him as. Being so powerful do you think he would need the help of a prophet a human being. He will simply change the software, he will simply write what he wants the humans to do and you will automatically do it from that moment, he is the one who created you guys. God makes you go to sleep, God makes you eat food, he makes you drink water. Does he make a request through a prophet that you should be eating food. Now that is something you don’t have a choice, it has been coded in your DNA, even if you try, the DNA forces you to eat food on time. That’s how God works. He doesn’t need the help of another human being to pass his message, he doesn’t need to come to you in the form of an Avatar and write a book for you to follow.

Me: Ok you have me a bit confused. You started by saying there is no God, then you said if there is a God he will make me do what he wants me to do, without me being preached, the way he makes me eat food and go to sleep he will make me do anything. What’s going on here? Are you now saying there is a God?

Jesus: What I am trying to say is, none of the greats here have seen God or talked to him, we have discussed him and came to the conclusion that there is no God.

Me: Please elaborate

Jesus: The reason the humans believe in a God is because of what we see all around us. Life, the universe et al. How can all this come without a creator. Now remember the logic, such magnificence does not come out of nowhere, there has to be a creator. So we put a creator on top of us, who has designed the whole thing.
As soon as we do that, we get ourselves into a vicious trap. If we were created by the creator then who created the even more magnificent creator. That’s where the religions shut you up, you are not allowed to question that. Or they will say he is divine, as in don’t ask me where he came from. All this is coming down right from Kabilama’s son’s time. He had an answer for everything, and people who would still not fall in line, he would get them killed. So there was always the fear of questioning the mighty religions in the air. Kabilama’s son is present even today in every part of the world. Don’t you remember I was killed by Kabilama’s son.

Me: Ok I get it, makes sense. If we are so perfect and we need a creator, then the creator being more perfect would also need a creator by the same logic. I want to share a funny story with you guys. A grand child asked the grandmother “if the earth is round like a ball then why is it not falling” the old lady says “Because it’s sitting on top of a turtle” The child does not give up and asks “Then what is the turtle sitting on” the old lady goes “It’s sitting on top of another turtle” child “But what’s that other turtle sitting on top of” old lady “Stupid it’s turtles all the way down”.
So I get it, if you question the religions about the creator’s creator they would come up with an answer like “Turtles all the way down”, something that does not make sense, something they think has no end.
But here is my question to you guys, if there is no creator how can we come out of thin air. AND where did the thin air come from in the first place?

Jesus: For millions of years we used to think, including me, that the world is flat, until we found the answer. You guys have to wait. Just because there is no answer does not mean you create a “turtles all the way down” kind of an answer.

Me: How about all of you guys, the prophets? Did you guys lie? How could you?

Jesus: Every prophet has his own story, which they will share with you shortly. I am not talking about myself, but many of the prophets saw the society was stuck on something that did not make sense and they wanted to bring change in the society, they used religion. It was so easy to bring change when they used religion as a vessel of change, as soon as they convinced the masses that the change has been ordered by Kabilama (God) the masses would bow down and accept the changes (reforms).
All these prophets were great leaders of their times, they tried to bring change but when it did not work, there was no other way but to use religion to bring the much needed change in the society. That’s why every religion says “If you are lying for the benefit of someone it will not be considered a lie”

Me: Oh my God, they lied right in front of our faces and they even told us that they are lying and we still could not figure it out.

Jesus: Think of religion as a drug. It’s not a physical drug but a psychological drug. People talk to God on a daily basis, about all the problems of their life, they have a constant companion to share their thoughts with. Now if you tell them there is no God, it’s like you are taking away their best friend from them. They will not like it. And when there is a demand for a drug there will be the drug dealers who will supply.

Me: But even if you are equating it with a drug, what I have understood is, if it’s keeping a tab on the society, if the society thinks they are being watched and they will not break the common code of conduct because God is watching them, then should it not stay in the society, is it not a healthy practice, God or no God?

Jesus: Then why is there so much of crime in the society. The real good comes when there is no one watching you, when you don’t expect anything in return. If you are being good to please someone or because of a fear, you will always find loopholes in the system. You will bribe people to bring you closer to God, you will go and have a bath in the Ganga, and come out and say all your sins are washed out. You will do your prayers and make yourself believe you are the best human being in the world and then continue on the same path. Real change comes when it’s no Kabilama who is watching you, but it’s you yourself, watching yourself.

Me: Got it. Now that I have the history of religion and a pretty good understanding of it. Now can I clarify all my doubts about your days and times. I want answers from all of the major players in this room Let’s start with you Jesus.

Jesus: I am tired please start with Ram instead.

The real Ramayan.

Me: Ram, do you know how many people are confused about the place of your birth, they are killing each other in thousands, just because they are not sure exactly where you were born. I am dying to know this, were you born in Ayodhya where the Babri Masjid was?

Ram: Unfortunately not, I was born in what you guys these days call Afghanistan.

Me: WHATTTT? Holy cow, how did that happen? Please tell me your story from day 1, this is the biggest surprise of my life.

Ram: I will start after my marriage with Sita. I was of course a prince and she was one of the most beautiful princesses. Our Kingdom used to cover Afghanistan, Iran and many parts of present day Iraq. We had a tradition as kings, when we were getting married we will grant our wives a wish. I gave Sita a wish as a gift of being my wife and Sita asked for Lanka.

Me: Now this is getting a little bit too confusing. You were a king in Afghanistan Iran, Sri Lanka is way down south of India, why would Sita ask for Lanka.

Ram: My dear Lanka was not the Lanka you guys today know as Sri Lanka, it was India which we used to call Lanka in those days.

Me: Whaaaaat?

Ram: Yes. We were the Aryan race and we were always confined to the west of the river Sindh. None of the Aryan kings had ever been able to put their feet on Lanka (India). It was ruled by the Dravidians, the most dreaded warriors. Thousands of kings before me had tried to cross the river but they were brutally defeated by the Dravians. I saw the impossible nature of Sita’s wish. It was plain and simple suicide.
Nevertheless, a promise is a promise, I started making plans. I had to do something totally different. I started doing research on the previous failed attempts to conquer Lanka. The biggest problem which the previous defeated kings had faced was that the bridge that  was constructed on the Sindh river was not broad enough, so there would be a bottle neck of soldiers and the Dravidians would take advantage of a thin line of defense and would brutally murder the first group of soldiers and that would demoralize the rest. So I had to make the biggest bridge possible to take my army onto the other side without losing any time. So instead of making the bridge on the river, I decided to make all the parts of the bridge beforehand and only assemble it there. When the bridge was made the parts were so heavy that no one could lift it I had an army of 10,000 soldiers and if I made them do the heavy lifting they would be drained out by the time we reach the battle grounds. I had to modify my plans further.
I had heard of this very strong group of people in what you guys call Africa. No one had seen them but we had heard stories of their legendary strength. I sent out my minister to talk to them and get their help, but they killed my entire team. I had to go there myself, as without them it would not be possible. I went with a strong 10,000 army and after all talks failed we had to put them in chains and bring them to our Kingdom as slaves. I got 3000 of them with me in chains. Finally the plan was ready and we started on our mission impossible. The slaves were controlled with rationing of food, they assembled the bridge for us and took all our heavy duty artillery to the other side of the river in no time.  We were met in the battlefield by the Dravidian king Ravan who was a legend himself. After 3 weeks of fighting we were reduced to 3000 soldiers and 1000 slaves. We were cornered by Ravans soldiers and death was imminent. Ravan instead of killing us wanted to have some fun, he sent his messenger to our camp with the message, that if I hand over Sita to him he would spare our lives. That was it, he had crossed the line, I held a meeting with our soldiers but their moral was down, I knew they could not stand up to the 30,000 strong army of Ravan. I approached the African slaves, they had 2 brothers who I came to know were princes of their tribe, one was called Hanuman and the other was Bali. I asked them to join me fight Ravana, Bali started laughing at me, he said after chaining them and keeping them like slaves they would rather die than to help me. Hanuman was on my side, he got it. I promised them half of the gold  of Lanka and the utmost respect and a lifelong debt if they help out. Bali would not budge, there was no time to argue with him I had to kill him. Hanuman talked to his clansman and they were ready for the fight of their lives. I armed them and released them on Ravan’s army. The Dravidians had never seen any African’s before this. They were startled by the speed, the strength and agility of them. Pawan putr Hanuman and terms like Vanar sena were coined for them.
The surprise element worked. I killed Ravan and we pushed back the Dravidians to the South of India. I made the first Aryan city on this side of Sindh and named it Ayodhya (Invincible). With great honour and respect I took Hanuman back to his tribe with half of the Gold of Lanka as promised. I came back and decorated the entire city of Ayodhya and gifted it to Sita We celebrated the anniversary of Ayodhya every year and you guys call it Diwali. So that was my story.

Me: What???? This evening is full of surprises for me. You were born in present day Afghanistan and people are killing each other in India. Hanuman is an African???? Sita was never abducted???.. India was Lanka. Please tell me this is not a dream.
Ok now a question for you. If India was Lanka, how do you explain present day Sri Lanka and why does everyone thinks that this is the Lanka that Ravan used to own.

Ram: All that happens due to migration and time. Remember there were no written language in those days, every bit of information was passed from one generation to the other through stories. I will give you an example, there is a York in the UK and there is a York in the US as in NY and there would be many more Yorks in all the places the Britishers have migrated to. Imagine if there was no documentation and people of New York heard stories of a great king from York UK and they thought it’s their York that is the primary center of the story they will start looking for Lanka as well.
After centuries of being present in North India, the story of Ram winning the greatest war in the history of those day humans, the locations got interchanged. After 2,000 years of my birth they said if this is the place of Ram then where is Lanka. They started searching for Lanka. A group of Aryans went toward South India as that’s where the Draviians were, so supposedly that’s where they will find Ravan’s Lanka. They crossed the Dravidians and found this little Island where the population was of the natives. They killed the entire population and started living there. If you look a little bit deeper in the population of present day Sri Lanka, you will come to know the 2 major groups are Sinhala and the Tamils. The Sinhalas are pure Aryans, they were separated from the North Indian Aryans and they have Sanskrit as the primary language. Rest of the north Indian language of Sanskrit saw many changes with time and invasions and it became Hindi but the Sinhalese kept their language as they were cut off from the rest of the Aryans.

Me: How about Luv and Kush and you abandoning Sita because someone said something?

Ram: Do I look that stupid to you? It’s all a work of fiction by the storytellers. When a movie is a hit you guys come with a 2nd part and a 3rd part of it right, Luv and Kush are the 2nd part of my story. They were added to the original Ramayan after 5000 years, there is no truth in that story.

Me: What the hell?? Wow. Now tell me how did you become a God?

Ram: I never claimed to be a God. Even in the present day Ramayan there is nothing that indicates that I am a God, no magical powers, no extraordinary strength. It was just that historical battle which gave the Aryans an entry into India which no other king before me was able to achieve, that's what made me a legend, and add to it the storytellers adding more mystical stuff to the original story, gradually they turned me from a legendary fighter to a God.
